Action1 Scripting Challenge Q125
Official Rules & Guidelines
- Relevance: Submissions should produce actionable data that benefits a broad user base. Reports focused on niche applications or highly customized configurations should be avoided. However, insights related to widely used software suites such as Microsoft, Adobe, Autodesk, and mainstream browsers are encouraged.
- Scope: The report should enhance Action1’s core functions, such as hardware/software inventory, patch management, and vulnerability detection, or provide an augmentation to existing features.
- Customization: Use of Action1’s custom attributes is permitted and encouraged.
- Self-Contained Execution: Scripts must not depend on third-party packages or binaries outside the OS. However, OS-integrated features or freely distributable Microsoft management tools are acceptable.
- Submission Format:
- Main Comment: Include the title, purpose, and instructions for the script.
Reply to Your Comment: Post the script code as a reply to your main submission comment. - Community Interaction: Additional discussions, feedback, and assistance should be kept as replies to the code post to maintain clarity.
- Main Comment: Include the title, purpose, and instructions for the script.
- Voting & Scoring: The community will determine the winner through upvotes on the comment containing the script code. If multiple submissions are highly similar or tie in votes, a community poll will be conducted. If the tie persists, a fair random selection will determine the winner.
- Multiple Submissions: Participants may submit multiple entries, but each script must be posted in a separate comment thread to keep voting distinct.
- Respectful Participation:
- Avoid duplicating others’ ideas. In cases where two scripts serve a similar function and both receive high votes, the community will decide the winner.
- Code obfuscation, malicious intent, or any form of misconduct will result in immediate disqualification at the sole discretion of Action1 staff. Severe violations may lead to a ban from the Action1 subreddit.
- Anything that, as part of its design, needs to reach an external resource (such as a URL) should use example.com URLs. Live hotlinking is prohibited.
- These are not prohibited but must be public, fair use, and free. Just explain and post essential URLs as comments in the code (example: using an external API service for information lookups).
- All general questions should be directed to the official Q&A Subthread to keep the main submission area organized.
- Action1 reserves the right to consider anything it deems inappropriate to be an invalid entry.
- Off-topic discussion will be removed to keep this thread focused on the challenge.
Submission Deadline
All entries must be submitted by 10 PM (US Central Time) on the 14th day following the challenge’s start.
Rewards
The winner will receive:
- A $100 Amazon gift card
